We are taking the 7 day western Caribbean cruise in July. We want to dine in either adult only restaurants but aren't sure what to do with our 8 and 12 year old. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Welcome aboard, Anne!

Thank you for visiting the Moms Panel with your question. Your cruise is right around the corner and you'll be partying with Captain Mickey and the gang sooner than you know it. You will all have so much fun and the memories will surely last a lifetime!

My husband and I always make it a point to make a dinner reservation at either Palo or Remy on at least 1 night of our cruise as well. These are just awesome dining experiences on board, and I highly recommend at least 1 visit. If you have a chance, try to do 1 dinner and 1 brunch reservation -- it will be a gastronomic experience, I guarantee it!

We started cruising on the Disney Cruise when my kids were about 6 and 8 years old. We've done date night a couple of different ways. When they were younger, we would arrange to have them stay at the Oceaneer Club/Lab for the evening, and they've been fed dinner there. The youth counselors are wonderful with the kids, and it's likely, that your kids will have no problems having extended party time at the clubs for the duration of your cruise. Mine seem to want to just stay there til midnight! After about another couple of years, our kids were big enough to actually go to our dinner rotation on their own! Yes - they enjoy having dinner on their own. The dedicated dining room team loves spending the evening with just the kids - they keep them very entertained - and very well fed! I do let my dining team know the night before that the kids will be having dinner on their own, on account of our date night. Just so that they know to expect just the kids.

The funniest thing eventually started happening after the first kid-only dinner... my kids started planning dinner dates with their friends! So now, they get to invite 1 friend each to join them for dinner, as long as they promise to behave. It's a Date Night success story!

    Wishing you a magical voyage!

    Bon voyage!
