Mom And Son On Run

    Jaime from LA Asked

I will be taking my daughter and a couple of friends on their Graduation Senior Trip in Late May. I am looking for something special to do with them to make this trip truly memorable. Any suggestions of things going on at that time.

  • Greetings, Jaime! What an awesome trip you have ahead of you! I fondly remember my senior trip to Walt Disney World Resort; it was a physics class-based experience where we explored concepts of mechanics (the various animatronics), mechanical properties of matter (holding water cups on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad), thermal properties of matter (IllumiNations Fireworks), light and sound. As you may know, Imagineers use these principles all over the parks, so the inclusion of Disneyana to my routine physics class was enough to make me dizzy with excitement.

One of my favorite moments from the trip was our class gathering around World Showcase Lagoon and watching the Tapestry of Nations Parade, followed by IllumiNations fireworks at night. Our teacher purchased copies of these soundtracks as graduations presents for us, and that certainly helped to cement those memories over the past many years (I’m not giving away my age!). I still listen to them today and treasure the memories. Perhaps a Wishes, Happily Ever After, IllumiNations or even a theme park soundtrack are in order? What better way to recall your fun times than to re-live them with your ears for years to come?

I hope your daughter and her friends (as well as you) have a practically perfect trip in every way. In fact, I hope it’s Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! ~ Lindsey P.

    Congratulations for your daughter’s Graduation!

Disney’s Planning for Teens resource is packed with Theme Park touring tips, suggestions for suitable attractions, rides and experiences keeping your travel party in mind, enabling you to decide what's best for your group. Set the tone of your visit with the help of Disney Floral & Gifts In-Room Celebrations to start the excitement off from the moment you set foot in your Disney Resort hotel Guest Room.

Check out all the Special Events & Tours of which the Epcot Seas Adventures-Aqua Tour and Starlight Safari are hits with my older teen and graduate.

    Hi-Ya Pal!

Congratulations on your daughter's upcoming graduation, Jaime! Even without the magic of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation, I'm sure it will be a day you both will remember forever.

Depending on when you'll be visiting there are a couple of unique experiences you may be able to enjoy. The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival will be wrapping up on May 29th, so you might be able to check it out. As a high school grad, who wouldn't love a trip around the world...or even World Showcase? Also at the end of May, Pandora - The World of Avatar is scheduled to open! You won't want to miss this new, undiscovered land at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and if you are staying at a Disney Resort Hotel you'll want to take advantage of some late night extra, extra magic hours available.

For a fun treat, my family has really enjoyed taking a Specialty Cruise to celebrate a special occasion. You can customize the experience just for her and it will be sure to make a magical memory you'll all cherish.

Have a wonderful time celebrating with your daughter, Jaime! Please let us know if there is anything else we are able to assist you with.

    Magical Wishes,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Jaime!

You sure know how to make your daughter’s senior trip something she and her friends (and you, I hope!) will cherish forever! In the Spring, Epcot blossoms into action with The 2017 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. Now, I know what you may be thinking “teens and flowers?” But YES! It is really spectacular and beautiful AND there is the Garden Rocks™ Outdoor Concert Series which might be something they could enjoy!

A few of my personal bucket list items include a fireworks dessert party such as Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party at Disney's Hollywood Studios,  as well as a Specialty Fireworks Cruise. I am sure your party would love either of these! A few other suggestions would be a graduation photo shoot through Disney Fine Art Photography, or an in-room celebration including a special customized set of graduation ears from Disney Floral and Gifts!

I am sure you will have no problem making this trip truly memorable. If you have any further questions, we would love to help, so come again real soon!

A graduation trip to Walt Disney World is the perfect way to celebrate. Your daughter is a very lucky young lady as well as the friends to have you care enough to make this special trip for them.

When my daughter graduated, her best friend and her mother joined us for a Disney trip. The highlight of it all was a special scavenger hunt we planned for them to do one of the days. We gave them a camera, a little money, and maps and sent them on their way for what we thought was going to be a relaxing day for the moms. What we didn't know was that the girls had planned for the moms to also do a scavenger hunt at the same time they did theirs. I am smiling now thinking about the laughing and giggling we all did that day.

You can pick just one of the Disney Parks or all four for the scavenger hunt. Make the things they must find or do fun and not too difficult. I remember they had to take a picture of someone from each country represented in the World Showcase, or get on video a family singing the "Mickey Mouse Tune". Don't forget to have them bring back a snack......a favorite of yours is a good choice!

There are so many different things you can do for a hunt and it is almost as much fun making the list as it is doing the hunting. Pick an ending time and a meeting place and have a special surprise for all of them. They can work together or make teams, and if there are other moms you can even suggest they send you on your hunt too.

The memories we made from this day are with us always and we often bring up the fun we had. I am sure it would be memorable for you as well!

    Hello Jaime!

Congratulations to your daughter on her upcoming Graduation. With my oldest daughter in grade 1, I occasionally find myself imagining the day when my little girl walks across the stage, receives her diploma and I'll get to see her as the young Adult she has grown up to be.

I suggest that in lieu of finding some-"thing" special, that you create a personal story that can be remembered forever by replicating her growth from little girl to young woman using the Endless Magic of Walt Disney World Resort.

Your day begins at Magic Kingdom as young children, where your daughter and her friends receive their personalized Graduation Mickey Ears from Le Chapeau before they Meet Mickey at Town Square Theater.

The morning focuses on a return to Fantasyland. As your daughter grew, she delighted in the whimsy and magic of this special place and for one afternoon, the group is reminded of the kids they once were.

In the afternoon, your daughter became a teenager. The party runs at a frenetic pace to experience all of the thrill rides like Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad that thrill the big kid inside all of us.

As night falls and adulthood beckons, a meal at California Grill on the top floor of Disney's Contemporary Resort slows everyone down for some introspection and delicious food. The party escapes to the observation deck to take in the Happily Ever After Nighttime Spectacular with a solemn toast, soaking in everything accomplished today at the Magic Kingdom, but more importantly, over the last 18 years.

Enjoy whatever story you choose to create!

    Hi Jaime,

First, let me congratulate your daughter and her friends on their upcoming graduation! Second, let me celebrate you as a mom of a soon-to-be graduate!

Lauren H. mentioned Pandora - The World of Avatar in her post. Depending on your dates, you could be one of the first guests to walk amidst the bioluminescent rainforest. Imagine soaring through the skies on a banshee in Avatar Flight of Passage, floating through the Na'vi River to greet the Na'vi Shaman of Songs, and hiking through the Valley of Mo'ara. I can think of no better way to begin your trip than soaking in the unprecedented magic of Pandora.

Aside from the other great advice fellow panelists offered, I suggest that you purchase Memory Maker. Then engage in a photo challenge. How many fun photos can they get in the parks? We love to "pose" for the PhotoPass cameras on rides. Just remind them to do so safely! Long after they graduate, these photos will remind you of the magic of this trip.

Consider a royal treatment day beginning with a spa package at Senses - A Disney Spa located at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort. Then enjoy tea in the Garden View Tea Room. Finally, enjoy a special evening as a way to mark your daughter's transition to adulthood. The Celebration at the Top - Savor, Sip, and Sparkle event would give you a chance to remember her, in all of her brilliance, as the Magic Kingdom fireworks mark the end of one journey and beginning of another.

Though my girls are just 10-years old, I sense this graduation moment catching up to us! Wishing you laughter, magic and love on this trip with your daughter and her friends.

Congratulations on your daughter's graduation!  We, too, have taken our oldest children on graduation trips, and we made so many incredible memories.  I think you, your daughter, and her friends will as well!  To add to my fellow panelists' wonderful suggestions, I'd like to add dining at Victoria & Albert's for a celebratory dinner as an idea for making the trip truly memorable.

While dining here is a splurge, it is a chance for everyone to get dressed up and enjoy a dining experience that consists of a culinary experience that words can't describe. At this Five Diamond Award winning restaurant, each meal is made up of seven courses of the most delicious foods and the most impeccable service.  They even provide a small stool for purses so they don't have to be on the floor!

Wishing your daughter a magical graduation trip!  -Kara

    Hi Jaime,

I know you were asking about special events and activities in May, but I have a suggestion for an experience that might be the perfect way to capture memories of this special celebration: a private photo session with a photographer from Disney Fine Art Photography. My family has done this twice and we highly recommend it. The cost for a mini session is quite reasonable (less than $200) and includes the photos.

All the girls could participate and each have all the photos to keep as a memento.

For a limited time, there's a mini session available in Magic Kingdom. The session lasts 15 minutes and includes lots of shots with Cinderella Castle in the background. The photos are sent to you via a link within 24 hours.

My family has taken advantage of the regular mini sessions at a resort. You can choose between Grand Floridian, Polynesian Village Resort, Beach Club, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Art of Animation and Boardwalk. For these 20-minute sessions, you receive your photos on a flash drive when you are finished. You can share and print them as you wish.

We've done it at Grand Floridian and the Polynesian, and both times have captured super images of our whole family together, in different groupings and as individuals. It has become a tradition when we visit at Thanksgiving, and I think your daughter and her friends would love it.

Congratulations on this milestone, and enjoy this time with your daughter and her friends as they celebrate and move to the next stage of life.

    Hi Jaime,

How exciting that soon you will be celebrating your daughter's graduation with a Senior Trip. My fellow Panelists mentioned several ideas to make the most magical vacation ever. But here's a few additional ones.

The Wild Africa Trek will bring you to the middle of the jungle, on this private tour of the Safi River Valley. Learn all about Walt's life in Walt Disney: Marceline to Magic Kingdom Tour, a three-hour experience for teens and adults. Or enjoy a delicious meal before or after experiencing the sounds of your favorite Pixar films, in The Music of Pixar Live! Dining Package.

And here's a fun last tip: stop by Harmony Barber Shop or Castle Couture and get a complimentary sprinkle of Pixie Dust. I am sure you will discover right away how the Magic is Endless at Walt Disney World Resort.

    Hello Jaime,

Firstly let me join in with the chorus of congratulations to you, your darling daughter and her lovely friends on the occasion of their Graduation!  What a momentous milestone achievement for you all to celebrate during what's sure to be the most magical May trip ever to Walt Disney World Resort.

I'd like to suggest spending some time discovering all that's on offer at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort; this rustically beautiful Resort offers many differing Recreation experiences including the Segway X2 Wilderness Back Trail Adventure which I'm absolutely sure your Seniors would love as a special treat.  I think a perfect way to end this wilderness Disney day would be with a yeehaw, foot stomping evening in the company of the Pioneer Players at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.  My family adores this timelessly funny vaudeville style Dinner Show and the all-you-care-to-enjoy smoked BBQ pork ribs, fried chicken, cornbread and strawberry shortcake are amongst the best I've ever tasted!

I'm sure whatever is finally decided upon you'll enjoy a magical May visit to Walt Disney World Resort making unforgettable memories which are sure to last an entire lifetime.

Have a great Disney day ~ Jane

    Hello Jaime!

Congratulations to your daughter! A visit to the Walt Disney World Resort is the perfect way to celebrate this milestone and make memories that will last a lifetime.

My wonderful fellow panelists have already given you perfect suggestions, but after consulting with my teen sister I found out that there is still room for more magic:

    - Stay at a Disney Resort hotel to be immersed in the magic and enjoy exclusive benefits. How about staying at a beautiful Finding Nemo Suite at Disney's Art of Animation Resort? Did you know that the Big Blue Pool is the largest of all Disney hotel pools, and you can even listen to your favorite Disney tunes under water?

    - Give your daughter a Disney Gift Card so that she can do some special shopping. Some of my favorite stores are located at Disney Springs, like Kate Spade New York, Lilly Pulitzer, The World of Disney, Zara, and Uniqlo. While you are at Disney Springs, surprise your daughter by letting her choose her own piece of Disney art from The Art of Disney. To add more excitement to your day, make dining reservations at the newly reimagined Planet Hollywood Observatory.

    - When I graduated high school my parents surprised me with a beautiful piece of jewelry that I cherish until today. To mark your daughter’s graduation trip with the unforgettable gift, take her to Uptown Jewelers at Magic Kingdom Park. This beautiful store is located on Main Street U.S.A., and you will be surprised by all the beautiful options offered, from fine gems to charms of the Disney Parks Collection by PANDORA.

It has been a pleasure giving you more tips on how to celebrate your daughter. Please, come back to tell us all about your favorite experiences.

    Best magical wishes,

How absolutely magical that you will be able to take your daughter and a few of her friends to Walt Disney World in May! I would love to add a few of my favorite mother-daughter activities you can do with the girls.

Each time I visit, I make time for a visit to Senses at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. You can arrange for you and all the girls to get manicures and spend time together in the calming relaxation room. You can enjoy the hot tub, steam room and relaxation chairs before and after your service.

While you are at Grand Floridian, head over to the Garden View Tea Room for an afternoon tea. The girls can chat and bond over tea sandwiches, scones, pastries, and of course, tea.

The girls would also love some off-the-beaten path activists, like renting a cabana by the pool to enjoy a day in the sun with lounge chairs, a fruit basket, television and mini fridge. Afterwards you all can take a surrey bike ride around the resort.

For a special graduation celebration, rent a boat for an afternoon on the water. If adventure is more their style, rent a kayak for a day of paddling and exploring.

I hope you and the girls make memories that last a lifetime.
