We are taking our 1st cruise.6 nights from TX to Cayman Is.& Cozumel. Our school is asking for the educational benefits of the vacation to have the days as excused and to approve the tme off.Do you have any suggestions I can list for a 16, 14 & 8 ye

    Ahoy Tammy!
A Disney Cruise is jam packed with one learning experience after the next!  When you visit your Western Caribbean destinations, I suggest you venture off the ship and immerse your family in excursions like the Atlantis Submarine Expedition, the Cozumel Highlights and Mayan Ruins or Dolphin Discovery in Cozumel.  All of these experiences and ones similar in Grand Cayman are all great examples of hands-on learning and is much more meaningful than what can be learned in a text book or on a video screen.  When you are on the ship, all your kiddos will be able to participate in problem-solving based activities including the Marshmallow Olympics, 4th Pig's Pasta Place and one of my kids' favorites,Super Sloppy Science! The activities the youth counselors plan are all fun, and many of them are created with learning in mind!  Mickey's 200 is an event for the whole family in which your race car building skills are put to the test as you construct and race your own vegetable car!
On the first afternoon of your sailing, you can take a tour of the ship and have your kids ask questions about the vessel to the crew member showing you around (check your cruise newsletter for the exact time).  The crew members on board Disney ships represent many different countries and getting to know about them is a history lesson in itself!  My kids always enjoy talking to our dining servers about their homes, customs and traditions.
As a former teacher myself, I often had my students who vacationed during the school year write journal entries about their travels.  This was not only a way I could assess them, but it helped them recall all  they experienced on their trips.
I hope these suggestions help, Tammy!  Please let me know if you think of anything else I can assist you with before your sailing is underway!
    Have a wonderful day!
