Hi! We're taking a cruise on the Dream in December. We've never run in any of the Disney Run events and we're interested in running the 5k on Castaway Cay. I thought they had a regular 5k that anyone can do. Is this true?

Wow, Michele -- you've got an awesome Very Merrytime Cruise to look forward to in December. How exciting!

The Castaway Cay 5K Fun Run is a great activity to join when you spend the day at Disney's private island. Any guest aged 10 years and older can participate. There is no pre-registration or additional cost. You'll want to check the Personal Navigator to confirm the onboard meeting place and time on the morning that the ship docks at Castaway Cay. When we sailed late last year, my kids and I went down to one of the lounges at 7:30am to register and pick up our bibs. A cast member presented the route and provided additional instructions to all participants of the fun run. It is not a timed race -- so you can surely run, walk, jog, hop and skip the whole way. Your finisher medal will be waiting for you at the finish line!

It is nice and warm on Castaway Cay, so be prepared to be hydrated and wear appropriate clothing. You can always come back to the ship to change -- it's an easy 5-10 minute walk after the fun run. There will also be a Disney Photographer at the docks, so you can take before and after (with the medal) pictures too.

Afterwards, you'll have plenty of time to enjoy Castaway Cay for the day!

I hope this helps, Michele. Please do write back if you have any additional questions that we can help you with.

    Have a magical day!
