    Rose from NJ Asked

We're taking our almost 1yr and almost 3 yr old to Disney World next mo. My question is should we tell the 2yr old about the trip now and get her excited for it, or shall we wait till the day of? Will be our first visit, looking to make it memorable :)

Hi Rose! My littlest guy is 2 as well (turned 2 the end of October). I'd love to share a personal anecdote and see if that helps with your question.  We are local and go to Walt Disney World pretty much every week and while he is now starting to recognize the characters and rides we go on and knows what it means when we say we're going to see Mickey Mouse, he is used to it, so I will use a different analogy...

He is in love with my mom, his Grammie. She is his Disney World as far as he's concerned. I learned the hard way that when I say, "Grammie is coming over tomorrow!" all he hears is Grammie and coming over. So when I don't produce Grammie, he is a very sad little guy. I realized that unless Grammie was about to walk through the front door, I needed to keep that news under wraps.

Now I don't know how well your little princess will understand "next month" or if she'll be okay since it's her first visit and she doesn't really know what she's looking forward to. If it were me, I'd tell her the day-of, so that she has some tangible "right now" thing to look forward to. If you think she'll get that you'll be going in a month and can be patient, than by all means, share the news! I just thought I'd share my little story in case it sounded like how your princess would react. ;)

If you do decide to tell her now, a really fun thing to do is make a countdown chain out of construction paper, linked together and numbered with the days until you leave for Walt Disney World. Each day she can rip off another link of the paper chain and you can explain that when she gets to the last link, the next day is when you go to Disney! We used to do that when we lived out of state when our older kids were this age. It's definitely a highlight to the day!

No matter when you spill the pixie dust, I know you'll have a magical first visit! Take lots of pictures of those amazing memories!
