what are suggestions or good game plans for parents that still want to ride some rides with a 5 year old but have a 1 year old that cant ride. should all 3 of us book fast passes and just swap with the 5 year old or have staggered fast passes?

    Hello Jorge!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! As the mother of four, we have spent the last ten years of Walt Disney World vacations with at least one child too small to ride some of the bigger attractions. It was quite the milestone this spring when our youngest was finally tall enough to ride all the rides!

What has worked best for us, has been to use the Rider Switch option. We like to call it “The Baby Swap!” The Rider Switch allows the first group to ride, while an adult waits behind with the younger child. Once the first riders are done, the waiting adult can then ride the attraction, without having to wait in the standby line. So this person doesn’t have to ride alone, they can bring two additional Guests with them. This means your older child can ride twice! You can use Rider Switch with or without a FastPass+, but if you intend for the first adult to ride with a FastPass+ option, then the rest of the party must have a FastPass+ for the attraction too, if you want to use the Rider Switch option.

If there is an attraction that only one of the adults wishes to experience, that is the only time staggering your FastPass+ selections is a good idea. For example, I don’t enjoy Rock’n’Roller Coaster like I used to, so I book a FastPass+ for this attraction for my husband and my sons, while my daughter and I book a FastPass+ for something she is interested in.

One of the wonderful things about a Walt Disney World Vacation with little ones is that there are so many attractions that they can still experience. You may want to check out the list of attractions, so you are prepared in advance. This helps to avoid disappointment if a little one is not quite tall enough to ride.

I hope this helps as you make your plans, Jorge, and that everyone, big and small, has an amazing visit to the Walt Disney World Resort!
