    Hilary from DC Asked

We are staying at Shades of Green with my brother and his family our first few nights, then at a WDW resort the last few nights--can we still use the Magical Express from the airport? we could get off at Polynesian and walk?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Hilary! Shades of Green is a beautiful, serene resort where retired and active members of the military and their families can rest and stay while they play at Walt Disney World. I stayed here with my brother and I was very pleased to see how big the guest rooms were. We had plenty of space to spread out.

Guests of Shades of Green are not eligible to take Disney’s Magical Express. Disney’s Magical Express is for guests of Disney owned and operated Resorts only. At the stanchion, you would have to scan your MagicBand to show your Disney Hotel reservation, and since you don’t have one, they would not allow you to board. Shades of Green has it’s own preferred transportation means, which include the Sunstate shuttle service, the Mears shuttles, or Orlando Taxis. Be advised that you will have to have your military I.D. card ready to get past the gate on your way onto the Shades of Green grounds. The most economical of these transportation options would be the Sunstate Shuttles. You can find more information on the GETTING HERE page of the Shades of Green Website. When you have a moment between Park Hopping, use the sidewalk and crosswalks to gain access to Disney’s Polynesian Village and Resort, where you can taste one of my favorite desserts, the Dole Whip, while you watch the torch lighting ceremony on the Great Lawn. This usually is a five minute ceremony around 6pm.

If I can help you find your way around Shades of Green or point you toward the military Memory Maker discount, please let me know. You’ve got a friend in me! ~ Lindsey P.
