Hi! We will be staying at the Port Orleans Riverside this November and will have a 4 year old girl and 8 month old boy with us. What kind of activities do you suggest and what dishes do you recommend at the restaurants there? Thanks!

    Hi Elaine,

You are really going to enjoy your stay at Port Orleans Riverside. There is a peaceful southern charm that surrounds this lovely hotel.

There are lots of fun activities for the kids to enjoy. One of my favorites is making s'mores around the campfire in the evening. This is complimentary and usually offered nightly (weather permitting), but you'll want to check with the front desk or guest services for the schedule and location. This is a wonderful way to come back to your resort after a long exhausting day and relax under the stars and enjoy more family fun. Your four year old could set sail on a swashbuckling adventure on the Bayou Pirate Adventure. This 2-hour activity for 4-12 year olds is offered daily and does require prior reservations. You can make those by calling (407) WDW-PLAY (939-7529) and there is a fee for this activity. Other activities are bike rentals, carriage rides, and there is a play area near the pool area of 'Ol Man Island.

Boatwright's Dining Hall is the table service restaurant at that resort. It is themed after the warehouses where boats are constructed in the shipyards of the South. You will notice the "shell" of a boat hanging above the main area of the dining room. There are lots of Cajun and Creole favorites offered there. Among my favorites are the Jambalaya (there is also a vegetarian version), Crawfish Etouffee and the Blackened Fish.  They also have kids favorites like macaroni and cheese and cheeseburgers along with other pasta and chicken dishes. One other suggestion I'll offer is to consider going over to Port Orleans French Quarter one morning to indulge in the beignets at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. It is fun to enjoy this New Orleans delicacy among the Mardi Gras props hanging in the food court there...and they are totally worth the journey over to this portion of the resort.

I hope you have a magical trip!
