Hi, we are staying in Old Key West in Oct. We have 3 children in our party, one of our children has mild autism. How easy is it travelling around to other resorts in WDW. Will there be a bus to take us from our resort to another resort? Thank you .

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for joining us. Let's dig right in.

I want to start by saying that as a displaced Floridian, I adore Disney's Old Key West Resort. With spacious Disney Vacation Club Villas, the fabulous Sandcastle Pool, a relaxing ride aboard the Disney Vacation Club Water Taxi to Disney Springs, and so much more, this is my first choice when I need a soothing Walt Disney World Resort vacation.

One weakness to this very large Resort hotel is transportation can be time consuming. With the exception of the Resort Monorail, the complimentary transportation system throughout Walt Disney World Resort does not directly connect any two Resort hotels. Traveling from one to another generally requires a transfer at a theme park or Disney Springs. For example, if you have an Advance Dining Reservation at Cape May Cafe at Disney's Beach Club Resort, you could board the very first bus that arrives at your stop bound for any theme park. When you arrive, step off the bus and find the pickup location for Disney's Beach Club Resort. Then board that bus for the ride over to eat all of the delicious crab legs that await on the all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet. Given that it could take up to 20-minutes for a bus to arrive, you should budget about 90-minutes for this journey.

If convenient transportation is a top priority, you might consider a Disney Vacation Club Resort located on the Resort Monorail loop, Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, or The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Traveling between these Resort hotels is a breeze! Alternatively, the Disney Vacation Club Resorts located around Crescent Lake, Disney's Beach Club Villas and Disney's BoardWalk Villas, are also incredibly convenient thanks to a short stroll to two theme parks and several Resort hotels.

    I hope that helps!

    Wishing you many magical memories,

    Sally
