I will be staying at OKW in April and my daughter would love to go fishing with my dad. Do you have to be a guest at Port Orleans resort to cane pole fish from the dock? I don't see a way to make reservations except for the excursions. Thanks,

    Hi Karen!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Thanks for stopping by with your question! I love the idea of fishing with grandpa on a family vacation to Walt Disney World. Since we are frequent visitors to the resort, I am often asked by friends why I continue to go back again and again. Part of the answer is that there is so much more to the resort than just the theme parks, and that there truly is something for every member of the family to enjoy together, and always new unforgettable memories to be made!

If your daughter would like to go fishing with grandpa, they have several options open to them. As you mentioned, there are 2 hour guided bass fishing excursions. These can be booked in advance by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. The nice thing about this option is that it is available right from Disney’s Old Key West Resort.

If they are looking for something simpler and more low key, they can travel to either Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, or Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. You do not need to be guests of that specific resort to rent equipment but they should bring their Magic Bands and a Photo ID. At Disney’s Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, they can visit the marina to rent individual cane poles, and then relax and fish for bluegill and perch at the Ol’ Man Island Fishing Hole. At Disney’s For Wilderness Resort & Campground, they can rent casting-rod fishing gear from the Bike Barn. Do make sure they are aware that all fishing at the Walt Disney World Resort is catch and release, so don’t plan on feasting on their catch for dinner!

I hope this helps with your planning, Karen. Please let us know if we can help you with any additional questions.

Wishing you a “fishingly" good time at the Walt Disney World Resort!
