Staying 14 nights at POR, concerned about the size of our room (Family of 5 - kids 12, 10 & 6). Considering an upgrade for the last 1/2 of trip. Budget is a concern, in your opinion would it be worth it to go to the FWcabins over the ASM

    Nicole:

I'm a big fan of Fort Wilderness and its cabins, but after seeing the family suites recently at All-Star Music, I can see where you may have a tough decision before you. Both have separate bedrooms and both campuses have a pool, but there are a few differences:

    • The jazz suite's kitchen is more like a kitchenette with a small microwave and small refrigerator vs. the full-size kitchen--and dish washer (my favorite)--in the cabin. You can cook your own meals in the full-size kitchen and that may help you bridge the gap in the budget.
    • What the jazz suite lacks in the kitchen, it makes up for in the bath--or should I say bathrooms. It has two vs. one in the cabins.
    • The cabins sport a deck and the inside is almost double the space of the jazz suite. After a week at POR, you may need the fresh air to stretch your legs.
    • The Fort Wilderness campus has so many activities outside of the pool, like a water launch to the Magic Kingdom and monorail, a horse barn, bike paths, fishing, and the free campfire sing-a-long. You could spend several days at the resort and cut down on your ticket costs.

Figure out the difference in cost and see if you can make it up with room meals and time at the resort vs. the parks. Then see if the price difference is worth it for the extra room!

    Wishing you a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
