We are going to be staying at Coronado Resort. I looked on line at the company you use for ECV rentals that deliver to the hotel. My question is do the ECVs fit on the hotel shuttles to the parks? There is a lite that breaks down.

    Hi Sharon,

I'm so happy you stopped by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. I recently stayed at the Coronado Springs resort while recovering from an accident that severely impaired my mobility for a few months, and I rented an ECV for that stay and for a couple of subsequent stays in Walt Disney World resorts. So I guess I am uniquely qualified to assist you.

Let me put your mind at ease right away: The resort, the transportation, the restaurants and the theme parks are incredibly accessible and accommodating to guests who need mobility assistance. When you board a bus for one of the four theme parks or Disney Springs, the driver will help you maneuver your ECV into place and secure it for the journey. No need to stand up or transfer to a seat unless you want to. (During another recent stay to Pop Century, I rode my ECV directly into a gondola on the new Disney Skyliner).

It sounds like you have visited the website for ScooterBug, the Disney Featured Provider of wheelchairs, strollers and ECVs. When you rent from ScooterBug, you do not have to be present to accept delivery. The company will simply leave the ECV with Bell Services for you, and you can claim it (and later drop it off) there. If you rent from other third-party companies, you will need to be present for delivery.

For each of my rentals from ScooterBug, I chose the Resort model. It was comfortable, nimble and sturdy. I found it much easier to maneuver than the ECV I rented directly at the theme parks on one occasion.

My Coronado Springs stay was early in my recovery, when I couldn't stand. I rode my ECV all around the resort -- for dinner at Three Bridges Bar & Grill and Toledo -- Tapas, Steak & Seafood, drinks at Barcelona Lounge and Siestas Cantina and breakfast at El Mercado de Coronado. It was a fabulous visit.

I hope that helps, Sharon. Please let me know if you have other questions about ECV use at Walt Disney World. Enjoy!
