We are staying at the Boardwalk villa and plan on buying groceries through garden grocer for breakfast and snacks. What can we do with the food we have left if we are unable to pack it in our suitcase for the plane? Unopened beer, cereal?

    Hi Heather,

Thanks so much for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.  Disney's BoardWalk Villas is my home resort with Disney Vacation Club, and is one of my favorite places to stay at Walt Disney World.  I love the hustle and bustle around Crescent Lake, and the quick walk to Epcot is wonderful!

Like you, my family and I enjoy having groceries in our villa during our stays at Walt Disney World.  We do our best to try to order only what we need; however, there is inevitably some food left at the end of our vacation.  We typically bring an extra, unpacked bag with us on vacation.  We bring a duffel bag or other bag which can flatten when empty so that we can pack it in a suitcase on our way to Walt Disney World.  Then, if we have food that is not heavy and will not spoil, such as coffee or cereal, I can pack the food in this bag and check it on the airplane on the way home.

Another strategy that I use if I have too much food to take home is to try to find another guest who would like the food.  It might seem a little odd to stand in the hallway and say, "Hey, I'm checking out today and I have a bunch of unopened bottled water and pretzels left.  Would you like them?,"  but I have found that often other guests are very grateful for the offer.  I do typically offer only unopened food to so that people feel more comfortable.  I find that Disney Vacation Club members are such a community, and guests are generally so happy to be on vacation, that people are open to such offers.

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Heather.  Have a wonderful time planning your vacation, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
