We are starting to think about planning our first disney cruise for next year (2015). We are going to do Caribbean or Bahamas. Our kids will be 5 and 7... Are there any dolphin encounters we will be able to do and what is the best?

Welcome aboard, Sarah! I'm so excited to hear that your family is looking to plan your very first cruise with Disney! And I'm thrilled to tell you about my favorite Dolphin Swim in the Bahamas!

My kiddos are the same ages as yours and my daughter, 7, is the dolphin lover in our family. I surprised her this past fall with a Port Adventure on our Disney cruise where we got to swim with her favorite creatures! The Blue Lagoon Dolphin Swim was so amazing. We were in a very small group of only four guests who got to get in the water, pet, interact with, swim with and then be propelled across the water by two beautiful dolphins. If your five year old turns six before you set sail, this is the perfect adventure as it starts at age six. However, if he or she is still five, the Dolphin Interaction is still a great one starting at age three. There is slightly less hands-on time with the interaction versus the swim and more guests per group, so when possible, I always suggest the swim. With both options, guests get to spend the rest of the day exploring and relaxing on Blue Lagoon Beach! I'd suggest opting for one of the earliest dolphin swim departures so you can swim with them then have even more time to enjoy the island afterwards before heading back to the ship.

There are many other dolphin swims and encounters in the Bahamas and Caribbean, but my first hand experience with the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Swim was top notch and I certainly wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend it, Sarah! Please stop back again as you continue to plan your cruise. I'm happy to help with any other questions you might have!
