Hi, I am starting to plan our first trip for the spring. We will likely visit on my oldest son's 5th birthday. Are there any special things we should do since we will be there on his birthday?

    Hi Karen,

How fantastic to be visiting Walt Disney World for your son's birthday. The celebration will be truly magical!

I suggest that guests celebrating birthdays pick up a complimentary "Happy Birthday" button. These are available at Guest Relations at all of the Disney theme parks, as well as at many other locations throughout Walt Disney World. It is always fun to hear other guests and cast members alike wishing your birthday child a happy day when they are wearing this button. My daughter was amazed and thrilled when, wearing a happy birthday button on her 7th birthday, our waitress at The Plaza Restaurant at Magic Kingdom presented her with a giant cupcake after her lunch. While extra magic like this cannot be guaranteed, you never know when a little extra pixie dust might be sprinkled on your day when wearing a happy birthday button! I also suggest that you note that you are celebrating a birthday on your resort and dining reservations so that cast members are aware of the celebration.

If you are looking for a special gift for your birthday boy, consider Disney Floral and Gifts. On their website, you can peruse many options for birthday gifts that can be customized and delivered. My daughter loved receiving a plush Minnie Mouse and balloons in our villa at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort on her birthday!

Finally, I find that letting little ones take the lead is a wonderful birthday gift. Ask your son which theme park he wants to visit for his birthday, and let him be a part of choosing Disney FastPass+ experiences for the day, as well as choosing at which Disney dining location he would like to have a special birthday meal.

Have a wonderful time planning this magical celebration, Karen!
