I am starting to plan my family's first trip to WDW, we are going next year during popculture week. My kids will be 7 & 4. What are the things I should absolutely plan on doing. I have looked at numerous blogs and sites and already feel overwhelmed.

    Hi April!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and congratulations on your family's first vacation! I know it's easy to feel a bit lost when planning and sometimes it's hard to know where to start, but don't worry, you've come to the right place. Hold on tight and Pixie Dust away!

First, choosing which parks to visit depends on how many days you will be visiting and what type of tickets you have. While you can do a different park everyday, or more than one in a day, I always recommend to take it a little slower, especially during first vacations. Spend more time absorbing everything around you, leave extra room to ride a ride multiple times if your kids absolutely love it and don't be too busy that you may miss a little of the unscripted, unplanned Disney magic. Disney vacations are definitely about planning, but I always leave plenty of room planned with no plan at all. Once you know what parks, take a look at the Park Calendar to find out which days during your vacation work best. Figuring out which day you will be in which park makes it possible to plan your Dining Experiences and your FastPass+ selections. I highly recommend at least one Character Dining Experience. These are such a great way to enjoy a family meal and get several great photos of your kiddos interacting with their favorite Disney friends.

As more questions arise during your planning, or if you'd like to provide me with more details, I would love to continue helping you create your Fairy Tale vacation. Feel free to send me as many follow-up questions as you need, I am hEAR to help!

Hi-ya, Pals! I'm a wife and mother of three who's enjoyed many special occasions at Walt Disney World Resort with my family: graduations, pregnancies, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, reunions, and even our Fairy Tale Honeymoon. I look for any excuse to return "home" often and would love to help add a little extra Pixie Dust to your next magical adventure. Learn More About Lauren
