Mom And Son On Run

Starting to plan family's first trip to WDW in Feb '12, family of 4 w/ a 7 and 4 yr old. I don't know which hotel to choose, a value and use the savings for more in park experiences, the Caribbean beach resort or the animal kingdom resort. Suggestions?

That's a tough decision that I struggle with, too!  Based on the information you provided, here are some things to consider:

-With children that young, you'll likely be spending a fair amount of time in/around your resort.  That said, you may find it's worth the splurge to "upgrade" to a resort with inviting walking paths and a themed pool.

-What type of "in park experiences" are you considering?  Perhaps you should run the numbers to determine whether upgrading slightly to the moderate resort would still leave you with enough in your budget to take part in one or two of those "extras".

-Do you foresee yourself dining on site at your resort?  All of the resorts you mention have decent food courts, though the Animal Kingdom Lodge has more extensive table service options.  It's a factor that might sway your decision.

In the end, you know best which perks are worth the splurge for your family.  If it were my call, I'd probably split the difference and opt for the Caribbean Beach!  Good luck with your decision.
