We started a first night tradition last trip of eating dinner at chef mickeys. What would you recommend as 2nd/3rd choice if we can't get a reasonably timed ADR?We have a 9 y.o. DD, 5 y.o. DS. Also can you recommend 1 or 2 TS restaurants @ each park. Thx.

    Amy:

Dining at some of our favorites at Disney usually tops our family's must-do vacation list, too. Having some options in case the ever-popular Chef Mickey's is booked makes good planning. If you're looking to replace the interaction with characters, look at Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club. Although Mickey is absent, you'll get pictures with Minnie and a few friends. If you want to stay in the same resort, consider treating everyone to California Grill atop the Contemporary, floors above Chef Mickey's. The children will find the view memorable, and you'll find the children's menu more affordable than Chef Mickey's, making up for the price of the adult entrees. As for dining in each park, here are a few to consider:

    • Magic Kingdom: For just a few dollars more than counter-service, I can enjoy a superior meal at The Plaza Restaurant that is relaxing and brings some of the best values on dessert.
    • DHS: If you think your daughter may find the characters at Hollywood & Vine too juvenile, consider Sci-Fi Dine-In. Although some of the movies can be a little frightening, eating in a "car" creates some wonderful memories.
    • Epcot: A late breakfast reservation at Akershus provides interaction with princesses while enjoying a familiar menu. I find that some finicky palates (including adults) don't care for the restaurant's dinner options. Biergarten stands as another family favorite with food that appeals to all ages as well as entertainment.
    • Animal Kingdom: I'm sucker for Rain Forest Cafe and dancing monkeys, best of all, the menu offers lots of variety. If you don't get to see Donald at Cape May, check out Tusker House.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
