We're squeezing in a short family trip while my husband is there for work. I will be with my three kids (DS-10, DS-8, DD-8) by myself for a full day. What do you recommend as a good plan of action for the day?

    Michele:

Many folks think only of the theme parks when they think of Disney, but if you are only going to have one full day, I would suggest considering a full day at either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach water parks. Here's why:

    • You'll save money: With the four of you, you will save almost $200 by visiting the water parks instead of the theme parks. You can use that money to splurge on a cabana or dinner at nearby Downtown Disney after the day.
    • You don't need to worry about FastPass+ reservations: If your trip finds you going at a popular time of year, making the most of one day at the theme parks requires using the FP+ system. My hunch is that you're not staying at a Disney hotel to optimize the FP+ system. If you visit the water parks, you don't have to worry about FP+ because they don't offer it.
    • You can relax: I love the water parks because I don't have to stand in lines for attractions like I do at the theme parks. I can sit on the beach and enjoy watching the children or join them floating down the lazy river. If you splurge on that cabana, you can even have someone else bring you lunch.
    • There's something for everyone: Your children are wonderful ages to get the most out of the water parks. Whether they're spending time at Ski Patrol Training Camp at Blizzard Beach or the Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon, there will be as much to keep their interest as in the theme parks.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
