We would like to split our trip this coming December between Fort Wilderness and Port Orleans. What is the best way to get to Port Orleans from Fort Wilderness the day our reservation changes?

    Hi Mary,

Many guests like to switch resorts mid-stay in order to see and experience more than one Disney property.  Disney does a great job at making this a relatively stress and hassle-free process.  On the morning that you are switching resorts you simply check out of your first resort (Fort Wilderness) and let the folks at baggage know you are moving to another property (in your case, Port Orleans) and would like them to transfer your luggage. They will tag your bags and move them to your new resort. Please note that the bags often do not get transferred until later in the afternoon, so if there is anything you need sooner, be sure to it with you the morning you check out of Fort Wilderness. You can either go directly to Port Orleans and check in (your room may not be ready prior to check in time) or head to the parks and check in when you return. You will need to get new Keys to the Kingdom cards at the second resort, however, the original cards will work in the parks during the transition day before you check in at Port Orleans.

There is no direct transportation from Fort Wilderness to Port Orleans, so I would recommend heading to a park while your luggage makes its way to your new resort, and then taking a bus to Port Orleans when you are ready to check-in.

Have a wonderful stay at both properties!
