Can i split my family into 2 separate reservations for character dining? We are a family of 7. Trying to avoid an automatic $60+ gratuity for buffet service.

    Hi Dene,
Thanks for submitting your question to us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel! You must be so excited about your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort vacation! What's your countdown?

Regarding your question about splitting your dining reservations to avoid an automatic gratuity, you may do that but please be advised of a couple of things.  First, please consider that you may not be seated close to the other half of your party.  Some buffet restaurants, such as The Crystal Palace located within Disney's Magic Kingdom Park, are quite large and it's possible that your family will be seated far apart from each other.  If this isn't an issue for you, then two reservations may work for you.  Second, if you make two reservations and then ask to be seated at one table, you will be treated as one large party and the gratuity of 18% would apply since you are a party of six or more.  The party size is determined by the number seated at one table, not the number of people on each reservation.

Dene, I hope this helps with your vacation planning. I hope you and your family have a wonderful trip!

    Best Wishes,
    Amy S.
