We will be spending Christmas at WDW this year for the first time. Although we have been during the summer months when school is out we are a bit worried about the stories we've heard about crowds during the holidays. Any advice for managing crowds?

    Hi Anna,

The winter holidays are such a beautiful time of year to visit Walt Disney World. The resort will be decked out in amazing decorations. My family and I visited Walt Disney World during the week of Christmas recently. You are correct, this is an extremely popular time of year, and the theme parks can see many, many guests. Let me share with you our tips for a successful winter holiday vacation at Walt Disney World.

First, arrive at the theme parks early, even 30 minutes or so before the posted opening time if you can. Even during this busy time of year, guests tend to arrive at theme parks a bit later in the day. If you head to the theme parks right when they open, you will see the smallest crowds of the day, and be able to experience more of the theme parks with fewer other guests there in the early morning hours.

Next, take full advantage of the Disney FastPass+ system. Be sure to choose three attractions each day that you want to experience with shorter wait times, and make those selections as soon as you are able, 60 days before check-in if you are a Walt Disney World resort hotel guest and 30 days ahead if you are not. Once you have used your three Disney FastPass+ selections on that day, hop onto the My Disney Experience mobile app to make another one, based on availability, and continue to do so throughout the day.

Finally, my family generally leaves a theme park, especially at more popular times of year, by mid-afternoon. There is lots of holiday magic elsewhere at Walt Disney World! I especially like to head to the different resort hotels to see the holiday decorations. Make some dinner dining reservations at these hotels and enjoy the ambiance!

I hope these thoughts are helpful for you, Anna! Please do let us know if you have any further questions.
