my son is 9 years old but he does not eat like onet. He enjoys real food not kids meals. Can I paid to upgrade him to an adulr on the food plan? I will traveling in August on free dining. thanks

Hi, John! I have a son who has always eaten like an adult. He likes quality and quantity. Therefore, I understand your concerns. However, I wouldn't worry about either since you're enjoying the benefit of a free Disney Dining Plan (DDP). Here's what you do:

    • When you make your dining reservations, pay particular attention to the restaurants that serve family style or offer a buffet.  It doesn't matter for either  if you're a child or an adult, it's all you care to eat. My son enjoys the selections at Tusker House, Boma, Biergarten, The Garden Grill, Cape May Cafe (character breakfast and seafood dinner), Akershus, Chef Mickey, Hollywood & Vine, 'Ohana, Whispering Canyon Cafe (canyon skillets!) and The Crystal Palace.
    • Then, when you're ordering at counter service restaurants, most of the kids' meals are hearty and offer more than your typical kids' fare. You can take a look at allears.net to look at specific menus of restaurants. If he's still hungry, you can subsidize his appetite with a snack option from the menu, too.
    • If you're at a table-service restaurant that serves a la carte, you can request something from the adult's menu served in a kids' portion. We received our request at Sanaa for this with no problem. In fact, the chef came out to see the child that requested such a sophisticated selection from his menu!

I think you'll find that the Disney Dining Plan (DDP) will provide you with more than you expect both quality- and quantity-wise, and you would be prudent to wait and see how the plan is working out for you and your family once you arrive. You can always pay for something extra out of pocket on the same ticket that you're using DDP credits, and it may cost you less in the long run to pay as you go instead of upgrading to an adult DDP for your son.

I hope this helps you plan! Come back if you have more questions or concerns. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
