My son is 2 years old and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience bringing a child his age on rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, or the Haunted Mansion. I think he would be fine, but I don't want to traumatize him either. Any advice?

Every child is different.  I can tell you that my daughter went on both rides right before her 2nd birthday.  Pirates of the Caribbean does have a moment of complete darkest and a moderate sized dip towards the beginning.  It is one of my daughter's favorite rides.  I think she finds the Haunted Mansion to be a little boring.

I once brought a 7 year old girl on Haunted Mansion and we had to get off because she was too scared.  Before you enter the ride, there is a ghost that welcomes you and he has a scary voice.  It also appears that the walls are moving.   She couldn't take it and a very nice castmember let us sneak out of the room.

Be sure to first let your little one go on rides like Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh first.  Make sure he likes them first.  You also might want to try Journey into Imagination with Figment.  This ride is in Epcot and is very child friendly, but has a moment of complete darkness.
