My son is 7 years old & we are coming to Disney World in August for his b-day. He LOVES pirates. It would appear that the Pirates & Princesses party is out of the question in August so I was wondering about Pirate Characters.

Ahoy matey! Head to the Magic Kingdom's Adventureland for Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial. Do you seek adventure?

Jack Sparrow’s mate, Mack, arrives (after a late night in Tortuga) wheeling out props and placing a rope on the ground. Position yourselves behind the rope. Kids learn sword “play” which includes a flee technique yelling “look, there‘s the governor‘s daughter“. Kids receive a certificate stating they are an Apprentice Pirate.

Peter Pan characters including Hook appear nearby. The schedule is in the Times Guide. Travel through Pirates of the Caribbean, while looking for Jack Sparrow and Barbossa.

Take to the seas to find more swashbucklers. Pirate Adventure cruises are offered at several resorts. You do not need to be a guest of the resort. Call to make an Advance Dining Reservation at 407-WDW-DINE (939-3463).

Consider the Grand Floridian Pirate Adventure cruise.  Check in at the Captain‘s Shipyard. Kids are paired up with a partner, put on life jackets, name tags and receive a bandanna with Mickey ears. Before boarding, the kids are given safety rules by 3 captain pirates. Once aboard, they'll be yelling “aargh” as their pontoon boat leaves port. There was a pirate flag flying near the stern and a parrot perched near the bow. They look for treasure stopping at various places around Seven Seas Lagoon. On the return, they had lunch.

Nearing shore, kids were yelling out “yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me” and “we found the treasure“. Before disembarking, the treasure chest was opened .  We welcomed our pirate ashore with his goody bag. Inside, was a small treasure chest, compass, squishy eyeball, eye patch, ring and more. We heard tales of how a pirate captain got left behind because she tried to steal the treasure. But “then she got on board when she really wanted to share. She didn‘t know about sharing”.

For dining fun, many restaurants serve Pirates Punch in a souvenir Cup with a Glowing Captain Hook clip-on light.
