My son Max wants to know what an eleven-year-old boy might like to do outside of the parks. He's been to Disney World more times than we care to admit, but hasn't done that many "extras." What would you recommend, Bret?

    Erica,

There are many options that come to mind for Max's age group, and hope that at least one of them will match his interests...

    • Disney Quest is a unique offering that many overlook.  It's is a 5-story facility located in Downtown Disney that provides cutting-edge technology, virtual reality and 3-D experiences that most 11-year-olds would love.
    • Horseback riding is available for kids 9 and older at the Tri-Circle-D ranch in Fort Wilderness
    • Junior Fishing Excursions are available for kids 6 to 12-years-old (call 407-WDW-PLAY)
    • Sammy Duvall's water sports center (www.sammyduvall.com) at the Contemporary resort offers several options for Max's age group (some may require parental waivers), including parasailing (minimum weight of 125 lbs, so a parent may need to go along), water skiing, wake boarding, and tubing

Unfortunately Max will have to wait a few years to do the Richard Petty driving experience, as you must be at least 14-years-old for the ride-along program.  Hopefully some of the other "extras" above will match his interest, and keep your family enjoying the experience for many years to come.
