My son, Ian, will be turning 3 on May 3rd during our WDW vacation (we planned thistrip for his Golden Birthday 😊). Do we need to purchase park tickets and a dining package for him if he will only be 2 when we check in?

    Hi Sandra,

Good news! As long as your son is 2 on the day you begin your Walt Disney World vacation, he will be considered 2 for tickets and dining throughout your vacation.

Walt Disney World is such a fabulous place to celebrate a birthday. We officially became hooked on Walt Disney World more than 20 years ago when we celebrated my older daughter's third birthday there, and she still remembers her breakfast with Mary Poppins on that day.

Make sure you get Ian a free "Happy Birthday" button to wear on his special day. They are available at all Guest Relations locations and sometimes spark a special surprise for the birthday boy or girl. If you are planning a special meal on that day, you also may find that there's a celebratory moment. At Chef Mickey's, for example, Mickey and his friends lead the guests in a birthday song and dance.

So that you know all the rides and attractions that may appeal to the birthday boy, you may want to check out the the guide for visiting with pre-schoolers. That will give you lots of tips and ideas for making his visit the best.

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Sandra. Please let us know if you have any other questions. We're always here to help.

Enjoy, and happy birthday to Ian!
