My son is 5 and was diagnosed w autism at 2. You can’t tell by looking at him. He is also nonverbal. Will this qualify him for the das? I’m worried about him throwing tantrums waiting line when he doesn’t understand why/what we are doing.

    Hi Hallie,
Thanks for joining us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I'm so glad you stopped by with your question.

Several of my dear friends that are also on our Moms Panel happen to have children with varying degrees of autism. They are fantastic, wonderful kids and I love spending time with them in the Most Magical Place on Earth.  I'm so happy to tell you that the Walt Disney World Resort is incredibly accommodating when it comes to people with disabilities.  Not all disabilities are obvious and many are invisible; the Cast Members here are excellent at making sure that everyone has a good experience. The Disability Access Service, or DAS, was created to assist folks to have the most magical visit possible.

Please visit City Hall in the Magic Kingdom or Guest Relations inside the other Walt Disney World Theme Parks on your first park day during your trip to set up your DAS for your vacation.  Please know that DAS was designed to be used in conjunction with Disney's FastPass+ service for the best vacation experience possible.

You may still experience short waits in the FastPass+ line depending on crowd levels.

I'd also recommend hearing protection, as sometimes the loud music and noises inside the attractions can be bothersome to little ones that otherwise may not be sensitive normally. Fireworks can also be quite noisy, but can be enjoyable when the sound is dampened a bit.

Hallie, please come back and visit us again with any additional questions. Feel free to search our Moms Panel site for many more questions about special kiddos like your wonderful son. I hope your vacation is amazing.

    Best Wishes,
    Amy S.
