My son is coming with family for a WDW week in Oct. Two kids, 1 & 3. Do children need a day or two to get over the time change? Do you have any suggestions to help them adjust smoothly so they don't waste a minute of fun?

    Hi Kay,

    Great question!

Speaking from my own personal experience, my son has always adjusted to the time change very well. He was however 6-years-old the first time that he visited Walt Disney World.

As we travel from the UK, we have a 5 hour time difference to contend with. In order to adjust as quickly as possible, we always try to stay awake as late as possible on our arrival day. This is never too much of a  problem as we are always so excited! By doing this, it gives us the best chance of a full nights sleep as well as ensuring that we don't wake up far too early the following day. After the first couple of days, we usually find that our body clocks have adjusted and that we have settled right in.

When travelling with very young children, I would suggest that your son tries to keep to his childrens normal routine as much as possible and would also say please don't be afraid to go back to your resort for a break/nap mid-day. They will make much better use of their time at the parks in the morning and when revisiting in the afternoon with happy, rested children than spending the whole day there with progressively tired children.

I hope that this information has been of help and wish your son and his family a magical trip!
