We have a son with autism. Is there any special programs for him?

    Hi Andrew,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I, too, have a child on the autism spectrum, and I can tell you that we've found the most magical place on earth to be a wonderful vacation destination for everyone!

I'm happy to share with you that yes, there are quite a few resources available for Guests traveling with special needs. I'd encourage you to stop by Guest Relations when you first arrive and talk with them about any concerns you have about your son's visit. They'll be able to share quiet locations around the parks where your son could take a sensory break as well as register your son for the Disability Access Service if they decide that would be helpful for him. This service will allow your son (all all members traveling in your party, up to a certain limit) to bypass a standby line and instead receive a time to return later in the day to enjoy an attraction. It can be used on any experience that offers a FastPass+ queue and may be used on one attraction at a time throughout your visit. There's also a handy guide with details about each attraction so that you may be aware of anything that may be difficult for your son before you arrive.

One more Moms Panel tip for you: I usually pack a sensory brush, some headphones, and some sensory toys to help my son in case he begins to feel overwhelmed by so much stimulation. I'm happy to tell you that he's been visiting the Walt Disney World Resort for most of his life and he absolutely loves our trips there, especially seeing and riding the monorail.

Please let us know if you have any other questions as you're planning your trip, Andrew, and have a truly magical vacation with your son!
