    Dawn from MA Asked

My sister's husband is a veteran, and she would like to take her grandchildren to Disney at the end of 2018, using the Military Discount. As his spouse, is she able to do that if he is not going along on the vacation, or does he need to be present?

Hi Dawn, welcome BACK to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! We absolutely love when our longtime friends come back to visit throughout the years.

First off, please thank your brother-in-law for his service to not only our country, but the sacrifices he made for his family during his time in service. As an Air Force wife who is ever so thankful for the wonderful Military Promotional Tickets that Disney has graciously extended to U.S. service members and their families over the last almost decade, I love love LOVE that Disney as a company has recognized that quality family time is very important to a service family.

I am very happy to report that as long as your sister has her own military dependent ID that yes, she can make this purchase and no, her husband does not need to be present on this vacation. I'm the one in our family who purchases and plans all of our Disney adventures and I've successfully done everything from book a military discounted Disney Resort Hotel room to link the tickets to pay the final bill without my service member husband needing to do anything.

Military Promotional Tickets do have a few stipulations: They can only be purchased in person in advance at a base/post ticket office, or as soon as you arrive in Orlando at either a Walt Disney World ticket office or at the military resort Shades of Green. (Pro tip: Tickets are tax free on base and at Shades of Green.) Tickets must be used by December 19, and ID holding family is only allowed to purchase six tickets per calendar year. And while you can add these tickets to your My Disney Experience account to select FastPass+, you'll have to activate the tickets in person at a guest relations booth before you walk into your first park.

    I hope this helped, Dawn!
