My sister and I are planning a WDW vacation for 6/1/09 - 6/8/09. We are taking advantage of the buy 4 nights get 3 nights free. Do you have any recommendations as to ways to keep costs down?

Hi, Rena!  How cool that you are spending the vacation with your sister!  I have three sisters, and love getting a chance to do stuff like this with them!

There are quite a few ways you can help keep your costs down.  Since you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, you'll be able to use Disney transportation.  That saves rental car costs and parking fees.  Keep some snacks and drinks in your room, and if possible, keep a few things you can eat for a quick breakfast.  I like to keep protein bars, granola, raisins, and cereal bars with me.  They are easy to carry or pack in your luggage, and save you a good chunk of money on snacks and breakfasts.

If you are not on the dining plan, where you have already paid the cost of your meals before you vacation, you could share meals.  My husband and I will often go to the restaurants, each order an appetizer or a salad, and then split an entree.  Many of the restaurants offer generous portions, and if you each have a soup or salad, half of an entree may be more then enough.  If it isn't, you can split dessert!

We always budget for one souvenir for the kids - a tee shirt or sweatshirt.  But we allow them to try on the funny hats or put the big Mickey Mouse glove on, and we'll snap a quick picture.  The pictures turn out to be great souvenirs without spending more than what we've already budgeted.

Opt for a big meal at lunch instead of dinner, especially at the buffets or character meals.  In most cases, it is a little less expensive.  And if you want to experience the theme of a restaurant, but don't have the budget for a full meal, you can always go and get just an appetizer or just a dessert.

    Have fun!
