I just signed up for the Disney Marathon for Jan 2013. I'm not totally sure if it makes sense to have my hubby and our 4 children (ages 4,4,4,1) tag along. Any suggestions for how he can entertain the kids that long or is it best to leave th home?

Hi Christin!  First, congrats on signing up for the 20th anniversary Disney World marathon!  It is going to be AWESOME!

Wow!  You are very blessed!  Three four-year-old children and a toddler means lots of excitement at your house.  I am impressed that you find the time to run, and I know that it makes you a better mother because of it!

Well, the good news is that your race will begin very early.  You will start before 6 a.m. and will probably finish up soon after they have breakfast.  There are playgrounds and kid's activity centers at most Disney resorts, so that would be a good option for your husband while they wait on you to get back.  With that many small children, it may be hard for him to meet you at the finish line, but that could be something else to occupy them if he was up to the task.  There will be buses going to and from race events from each Disney resort that your family could use.  Just keep in mind that the finish line can be a very crowded area, so you will want to have a meeting spot picked out in advance.

You probably need to decide if this is going to be "your trip" or your family's trip.  I have been there both ways.  I usually feel a little guilty when I leave my children at home to go to Disney World, but I always get over it!

My personal advice---I would say that if you plan to just come for the weekend, you may want to leave them behind.  If you can make it a longer vacation, then you should definitely bring them and explore Disney World in the days after your race.

I hope this helps!  You will have a great trip whatever you decide.  And please let me know if you have any other runDisney questions!
