Can a side order be substituted for a dessert with the dining plan? We try to limit our sugar intake, but do not want to waste our "dessert credits." Thanks!

    Hi Laura,

This is a frequently asked question. Going by the rules of the dining plan, you can not substitute a side dish or appetizer in place of a dessert when using the Disney Dining Plan. That being said, it never hurts to ask. There is anecdotal evidence that some servers will make an "off book" substitution for you.

You should know that there are many lower sugar dessert options at the Disney restaurants, even some that are not listed on the menus. For example, in many cases it may be possible to get some fresh fruit as your dessert. There are also lower sugar dessert options available for diabetics. If there's something you need and don't see listed, ask what alternatives are available.

It may also be possible to get your dessert packed to go. This way you could eat it as a snack or breakfast the next day, thus spreading out your calories more evenly.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We're happy to help.
