Mom And Son On Run

    Gillian Asked

We have a severely physically disabled son (age 7) who is desperate to fight Darth Vader and try Jedi Training Academy when we visit in October this year - can a parent go on stage with him to assist (physically he won't manage on his own). Many thanks.

I feel the Force is strong with you, Gillian.

I'm thrilled to hear that your Padawan aspires to become a Jedi Knight and battle Darth Vader. My youngling, who also has special needs, loves participating in the STAR WARS: Jedi Training Academy and still talks about his first time battling the Dark Side. Since the Academy is wheelchair accessible, my young Padawan can remain in his stroller/wheelchair during the training, and I have been able to stay with him while waiting for his turn. However, I have not been allowed to be on stage with him during the event. I usually wait off to the side. Keep in mind that all participants are asked to a few questions to make sure they can follow basic commands necessary to complete the training from their Jedi Master.

These training sessions are very popular, and slots fill up early in the day. I suggest heading straight to sign-ups as soon as the theme park opens to secure your Padawan a spot. Currently, sign-ups are located near the ABC Sound Studio, and registration is on a first come, first served basis. Please note that sign-up location, character appearances and show times are subject to change without notice.

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Please visit us again should other questions arise as you continue to plan your October visit.

May the Force be with you!
