Mom And Son On Run

Hi, we are running in WDW in April and might stay off-site. Would we be allowed to drive to a Disney resort before each race and utilize runDisney transportation? Do we need to make reservations to ride the bus? Also, can we drive directly to the Expo?

    Hi Allison!

Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

It sounds like you are running during Star Wars Half Marathon weekend.  That is going to be so much fun!

The runDisney bus transportation from the resorts is reserved for guests staying at those resorts.  There may be some people who use them without staying there, but they are not supposed to. They allow buses for the number of hotel guests, so if a lot of runners did this it would cause substantial delays.  All of the Disney resorts have transportation for race events that weekend, so you could easily choose one to fit your budget and desire.

It's also possible to stay off property.  I have done that a couple of times.  While it isn't as convenient, it is definitely do-able.  You can drive directly to the expo for packet pick-up.  There will be parking for guests with vehicles at the Wide World of Sports.

On race mornings, there will be road closures that affect your route, so be sure to check the Official Event Guide when it comes out (about one month before the race) for driving information.  Also, be sure to leave in PLENTY of time.  When I have driven myself, I get there by no later than 3:30 a.m.  Traffic on race mornings can be really bad and you don't want to be late!

I hope this helps!   Please let me know if you have any other questions before your race weekend.
