What is "rope drop" and what happens, if anything, at each park? I understand it is the opening of each park, but cant find what happens. Is it worth being there for?

Each of the four major theme parks has a different "opening ceremony" that serves to welcome guests into the park in true Disney celebratory fashion.  I wouldn't want to spoil the fun by telling you exactly what happens at each rope drop, but I will tell you that typically the festivities last around ten minutes or so.  Many times a "family of the day" is chosen at random ahead of time and is given the opportunity to take center stage in the fun.  At Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom characters are part of the show, but that is, of course, subject to change.

As for whether or not it is worth seeing, it's hard to say.  My family is one that rises early to take advantage of the less crowded parks.  Since we're there anyway, it's fun to see some "extra" entertainment while we wait for the park to officially open.  If you are not a family of morning people though, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way just to see the "show."  Hope that helps!
