Does Rivers of Light need a fast pass, or can everyone see it?

Hello Kate!  It's always great to see a fellow Pennsylvanian checking out the Moms Panel site!  I hEAR you're going to be visiting Disney's Animal Kingdom Park soon.

Rivers of Light is a nighttime show that premiered in February 2017 and is located between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest.  It uses floating lanterns, water fountains, and mist screens that are inundated in color. For me, Rivers of Light is the perfect end to a busy day due to its mesmerizing soundtrack and its subtle beauty showing the spirit of animals- it reminds me very much of the Disney movie, Brother Bear.

The amphitheater seats about 5,000 guests, and roughly 1/3 of these are for those waiting in the standby line. The odds are good that you would be able to find seats without securing a FastPass+, especially if you decide to attend the later show (current times are 6:30 & 8:00 pm, but check show schedules on the My Disney Experience app before your trip).  If you go to the earlier viewing, I'd queue up at least 30 minutes beforehand.  We went in August 2017 and opted for the Rivers of Light Dining Package at Tusker House, which also allowed us to meet Mickey in his safari garb.  Another option for preferred seating is to do the Rivers of Light Dessert Party.

Whatever you decide, however, make sure you visit the Tree of Life after the sun goes down to witness the moving animal projections.  If you're in the mood for a nightcap before (or after) the show, I'd recommend heading to The Thirsty River Bar & Trek Snacks for a Himalayan Ghost!

    Enjoy your trip!

Meet the Panelist: Eean, Pennsylvania

Hi, I'm Eean from Pennsylvania!  I may have an unusual name, but my passion for Disney is not unique.  It’s amazing how many people you can find who love talking about, "The Most Magical Place On Earth!"  I'm that mom who always has her ears perked at PTO meetings, in the grocery store aisle, or at middle school basketball games waiting for an opportunity to give someone a planning tip to help make their vacation even more magical.
