Do most rides allow you to ride with a small backpack or are there shelves / cubbies to leave backpacks by each ride? I see that we can bring in outside food and water and that there are lockers, but I am trying to keep my things with me if I can.

Hey there, hi there, ho there Bonnie and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Spending a day with Mickey and the gang at the "Happiest Place on Earth" means you may need to bring some personal items along for the ride. But where do you put them during those nostalgic trips and thrill rides? Let's find out.

Attractions typically have space by your feet or in a surprisingly expandable pouch located in front of you on the vehicle to store anything from Mickey Ears, water bottles, and smartphones to small backpacks, sunglasses, and souvenir bags. On more intense attractions that do not provide a storage compartment I typically wrap a backpack strap around one of my legs to secure it. But what about attractions where you will be soaked? Adjacent to Grizzly River Run in Disney California Adventure Park there are complimentary lockers to use for the first to two hours. Thanks Mickey!

If you plan to bring lots of items then locker rentals are going to be a key part of your trip. To keep our backpacks light we reduced what we bring in the theme parks. For example, we no longer bring water bottles because cups of ice water are complimentary at any counter/quick service location. The Esplanade is the best locker rental location if you are park hopping.

Disney Dad Tip 1: Speaking of backpacks, the smaller, more transparent, waterproof, and fewer pockets the better. Drawstring bags are fantastic as they expand and collapse easily. Heavily padded, multi-pocket backpacks are heavy and during a hot day of magic you want to be streamlined like the Disneyland Monorail.

Disney Dad Tip 2: Keep items as few and small as possible. I typically have sunscreen, coins in a container for souvenir pressed coins, medicine for headaches, hand sanitizer, autograph book and marker, portable rechargeable battery and cable for my smartphone, and some prepackaged snacks for the kids.

Bonnie, enjoy making many Magical Memories.
