Hello! How does Rider Switch work with fast passes? If the first group has a fast pass for a particular ride, does the second group need to have a fast pass for that ride too? Thanks!

Hi, Nicole! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. This is a really great question, so I'm glad you stopped by to chat with us. This past November, we helped our one-year-old niece discover the magic of Walt Disney World Resort. During that week, we were able to make use of the new digital Rider Switch system and see how it differed from the old system I had used years ago with our little one.

This service works to help families with little ones that do not quite meet the height requirements for some attractions. One adult waits with the non-rider while the rest of the party enjoys the attraction. When the other adult returns, they can supervise the non-rider while the other adult boards the attraction via the FastPass+ queue.

To start off, all members of your party, including the non-rider, will approach the attraction's entrance. Notify a Cast Member at the entrance that you wish to use Rider Switch Service. The Cast Member will then scan the MagicBand or Disney Theme Park Ticket of up to three guests who will be in Party Two (the adult who plans to wait with the non-rider and up to two other guests to ride the attraction with him/her). The Cast Member will provide Party Two with a designated return time, which is usually the current wait time minus 10 minutes. Much in the same way that FastPass+ works, the Rider Switch will be valid for a one-hour window of use. Once Party One returns and they have reached the return time, Party Two will go through the FastPass+ queue to experience the attraction.

As the terms of use have been explained to us, if Party One experiences the attraction via the FastPass+ queue, then all members of the party should have made a FastPass+ selection for the attraction. I hope this helps you plan a magical day with your little one! Please let us know if you have any other questions!
