Kids on attraction

Is the rider switch service now based on Magic Bands? I thought I remembered Disney being in the process of switching when I was there in June'18. Does the swap now require the use of bands and how exactly does it work?

    Hi, there!

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Danielle. We're glad to see you again!

My family and I were among the first Guests to use the new digital Rider Switch system when it debuted last summer at the Walt Disney World Resort. The updates have made the service more convenient than ever, and with three kids, I need all the convenience I can get! I'm happy to explain how the digital system works.

As before, approach the Cast Member standing at the entrance of the Rider Switch eligible attraction and request to use the service. It's important that your whole group be present at that time. The Guest who is the designated "Waiting Adult" will be issued a Rider Switch entitlement on their MagicBand or card with an assigned return window. The Rider Switch entitlement works just like a FastPass+, so when the return window opens up, the Waiting Adult may enter the FastPass+ line after scanning their MagicBand or card.

The Rider Switch entitlement can be issued to two additional Guests at the time of the request so that the Waiting Adult doesn't have to experience the attraction alone. In my family, I'm always the Waiting Adult. My husband and sons ride the attraction first while I take the baby on a family-friendly attraction or on a stroll through the park. When they exit the attraction, my husband and I switch places. I enter the FastPass+ line with my Rider Switch entitlement, and I take my sons with me as my Guests; those lucky kids get to experience the attraction twice!

I hope this was helpful, Danielle. If you have any other questions about traveling with little ones, please let me know!
