Mom and daughter in teacup

With rider swap, if I take the older child on a ride my little one can not ride on can my husband take the little on something else and come back later to ride the ride or do they need stand and wait? Do all of us need a fast pass or just 2 of us?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Blog, Ian! I adore using Rider Switch Service so my big kid can get his thrills while my little girl spins round on the teacups! I’ll share with you how my family of four makes the service work for us!

My husband and son make a FP+ reservation for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train each time we visit Magic Kingdom, because those smooth turns and drops are just the best! Our family of 4 approaches the Cast Member at the front of the ride, and requests a Rider Switch Pass. The boys take the pass and use their FP+ reservations to enter the FP queue. Then, I park our stroller and take my baby to ride Prince Charming’s Carousel or the Mad Tea Party while we wait. Sometimes we’ll browse Sir Mickey’s merchandise location for the gorgeous dolls and accessories (it’s typically best to stay close and choose a ride that has a short line or simply grab a snack while we wait). When the boys are done riding, we switch kids. I take the Rider Switch Pass (and get to take a buddy, which means my son rides again) to the FP+ and without needing a reservation, am allowed to use the quick queue. My husband will then entertain my daughter on another attraction close by with a short wait, such as Casey Jr.’s Splash Station while I take my turn on the attraction.

As you can see, 2 FP+ reservations will work well in this situation, but you can only do this for three rides without coming up short for the 3rd guest. After that, you’ll have to use the standby queue for attractions or make a 4th FP+ reservation after using your first 3. If I can help you with any more kid-friendly tips for your magical vacation, please let me know. I’m hEAR to help! ~ Lindsey P.
