For rider swap, how old does the non-rider have to be to be able to wait with the younger children who can't ride? My husband and I would like to ride with my older son together for his first experience on some of the rides.

    Hi Keri,

Rider Switch is a great service for families who have young children or other members who are unable to experience a ride.  There does not appear to be a specific published age minimum established for the person waiting with the non-rider.  However the Rider Switch service describes the process as "One Adult can wait with the non-rider while the rest of the party experiences the attraction."

From my recent personal experience on vacation, my 15 year old daughter stayed with my 4 year old son while I went on a ride with my husband.  Although we didn't use Rider Switch during that time, I had no reservations about leaving my children together for a short time.  Although my 15 year old daughter isn't a legal adult, she is certainly an experienced and capable babysitter.  If you have a similar situation it seems reasonable to ask the Cast Member at the attraction if your older child can be included as one of the Rider Switch participants.

You might discuss this with your husband if you feel that your older child is "on the fence" with being able to care for the younger children in regards to age and maturity.  My own husband's decision maker is if the situation goes awry what would the newspaper headline be?  If your headline is "5 year old watches 2 year old while parents frolic on Splash Mountain" it's probably not a great idea.

Thank you for submitting your question to us Keri!  I hope this helps you with your vacation planning.  If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to write back to us.
