What resort hotel is closet to Fort Wilderness? Our children are staying there, but we want to stay in the hotel and take the boat to Ft Wilderness to visit them. Thank you. Debbie

    Hi Debra!

The Fort Wilderness Resort is a great place for a family to stay. My family loves the newly refurbished cabins and my husband and I enjoy bringing our bus to the campsites and "glamp" for a few months every fall.

The best resort with easy access to Fort Wilderness would be the beautiful Disney's Wilderness Lodge. The two resorts are actually connected by boat and also by a lovely walking trail. The trail begins by the horse stables next to Pioneer Hall and comes out at the bus depot for the Wilderness Resort. It is completely paved but it is not lit at night. Along this trail you will have a great opportunity to spot some of the native deer and turkey making it a peaceful scenario. Joggers, walkers, and bikers are allowed to use the trail but golf carts are not permitted. Once you reach Pioneer Hall you can hop on one of the internal  Fort buses to reach the loop where your family is located.

You can also use the complimentary boat transportation to go back and forth between the resorts. The boats run like the buses departing every 15-20 minutes. The resort boats are small and do not allow ECV's or wheel chairs unless they are folded. They will connect the Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, and the Contemporary Resort. The larger boats will be directly to the Magic Kingdom.

Enjoy your family Walt Disney World vacation!
