I have reservations at Disney's Boardwalk Villas for 5 nights in a two bedroom November 21-25 and am on a waiting list for Nov. 26-27. I have a backup reservation at Saratoga Springs for the 2 nights. How long should I wait??

    Hi Larry!

Welcome the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Thanksgiving is a very popular time to visit the Walt Disney World Resort. With many families having a holiday from both school and work, rooms to tend to book quickly. I have had personal successes and failures with the Disney Vacation Club Waitlist in the past. I do think it is always worth a try, as sometimes your needed room does become available!

In terms of how long you should wait before giving up on your Waitlist, the answer depends on your vacation priorities. Your can leave your reservation as it is, remain on the Waitlist and hope for the best. You can choose to have your Waitlist remain active until 31 days or 7 days prior to check-in. The default is usually 31 days. If your wait list does not come through at that point, it is canceled, but you can still check back daily for any change in availability. Changes made within 30 days or less of check-in result in any excess points being placed into a Holding Account. Since there are restrictions on the use of points in a Holding Account, the 31 day Waitlist cancelation is designed to avoid this situation.

If your desired resort does not become available from the Waitlist, you would then have what is known as split-stay. You would need to check-out of Disney’s Boardwalk Villas on Thanksgiving Day, and move to Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. If spending the first five nights at your desired resort is of prime importance, I would recommend this option. We have done split-stays before, and with Disney moving our belongings, it was an easy transition. If it is more important to you to have a continual stay at one resort, I would not wait too long to change your reservation to Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.  Since it is such a popular time to travel, it is likely to book. I hope this is helpful, Larry, and I’m sending you extra pixie dust for your Waitlist.

    Wishing you Membership Magic!
