I have a reservation for the Brown Derby. I have 2 kids 13 and 10 that are super picky. What would you recommend. Is this restaurant very good? Thanks

After dozens of trips to WDW, I just dined at the Brown Derby for the first time during our Moms Panel training in December 2007. I can't believe I had missed it for so long. I had one of my best meals ever at WDW: great wine, a roasted duck entree, and their classic grapefruit cake for dessert (so yummy I asked them for the recipe to bring home).

After that fabulous experience, I had to bring the family. So, the Brown Derby was literally the first place we ate during my family WDW vacation in February 2008. My husband had a rib-eye steak, I had a pasta with shrimp and artichoke hearts, my two daughters who actually eat (ages 8 and 11) both had a barbecued breast of chicken with grilled flatbread from the adult menu, and Miss Picky Eater daughter (age 8) had a hot dog from the children's menu. We were ALL extremely satisfied with our food. In fact, the kids were so happy that we ended up going back again later in our trip and were still just as pleased.

If you are concerned about your kids finding something to eat, you could have them order from the children's menu (even though they're older than "children's menu age," I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem.) The children's menu from the Brown Derby that I have in front of me lists the choices as hot dog, tempura grouper strips, grilled cheese, grilled chicken, and macaroni with beef.

One other thing to consider is that the more upscale table service restaurants do have the capability to modify their dishes to accommodate a guest's individual food issues. So, if you had a food allergy the chef would work with you to create a dish that is both safe and pleasing. This also works with food preferences as well as medical issues. If you know that your picky eater child only eats plain pasta with butter, you could ask the chef to make that for you even if it does not appear on the menu. The restaurants really do want to make the guests happy.

Hope you have a wonderful trip!
