Regarding the new policy no longer allowing kids under 14 in the park without an adult: We are planning a trip with 4 kids under 4 yrs, a 12yr old and a 15yr old. We were going to separate and allow the big kids to park hop together. Will this be allowed?

    Hi, Wanda!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. You'll be visiting Walt Disney World with kids of very different ages, so I can understand why you'd want to split your party. You're correct that Disney will be instituting a new minimum age policy for solo park entry at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. However, the policy will require that guests under the age of 14 be accompanied by a person over the age of 14 (so not actually an "adult" by the legal definition of the age of majority). The new policy will take effect Saturday, March 23 and will also apply to the two Walt Disney World Resort water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, as well as to DisneyQuest in Downtown Disney.

I think as long as your 15-year-old doesn't look much younger than his or her actual age the two older kids should have no problem park hopping on their own. Obviously, the challenge with this new policy is that kids who are younger than driving age don't typically carry identification with them. It will be up to the Cast Members stationed at the park entrance turnstiles to verbally determine whether a guest is underage. If this is the case, then a parent or guardian will be contacted and will need to come to accompany the child (or children) into the park.

Something to keep in mind is that each of the four Disney World theme parks offers attractions and shows for guests of all ages. You may want to consider entering the same park together as a group, then allowing the older kids to go off to experience their preferred attractions (particularly those with height restrictions that the little ones won't be able to ride).

Wishing you a magical vacation, Wanda! Please send more questions to us here on the Moms Panel as you continue to plan your trip. We're always here to help!
