Any recommendations for customizing Magic Bands? First name only? Last name? The customize page says you can use letters, numbers, and spaces and I was just wondering if anyone had creative tips

    Hi Cate,

Customizing your MagicBands is a blast, but there are a few things to be aware of.

You're limited to 9 characters when customizing. That includes spaces, so you don't have tons of room to play around.

Your MagicBand name will show up in three places: on the INSIDE of the band, on some screens in your personal MyDisneyExperience account, and on in-park screens visible to cast members. For the first two instances, you're the only one who will see the customization. But in the third case, others will see, and possibly use, the name. For example, when you use a FastPass+, your customized name appears on a cast member screen, so the cast might say "Hi Cate" or possibly "Happy Birthday Cate" if you've given them celebration information. So while it might be silly fun to customize your husband's band with "Stinky," he probably won't love being called Stinky throughout his vacation.

Assuming that you're traveling with family members, using your last name could be confusing or problematic because many of the names would be the same.

My family just uses our regular first names on our bands. But one of my fellow panelists customized hers with "Fairy Kim". That worked because she has such a short name and the fairy thing really worked with the Disney theme. You could also do something like customize with the word "Coach" or "Scout" if that fits a family member's personality, but overall my advice is to keep it simple.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
