Is it realistic to plan to visit a park after a 10K or 1/2 marathon? I didn't know if runners are too exhausted or still have enough energy to enjoy the parks! Thanks

    Hi Daphanie!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Many people are baffled by runners that can complete 13.1 miles then walk another 10 in one of the theme parks during the day, but there is a little extra pixie dust at Walt Disney World that always helps get me through the day!

Every runDisney event I've ever done, I've gone straight into the parks and sometimes even shut them down, but it's not for every one. If it is your first running event and you aren't sure how your body will react I would just see how you feel. I will tell you immediately when I finish the muscles in my legs feel like jello, but I notice the more I keep walking and going I actually feel better. I would say overall a majority of runners do spend the day in the parks afterwards, but take it easy and realize you may not be moving super fast. If you do, don't forget to wear your race bling proudly! Cast members are great at chEARing you on as the day goes on because they know everything you accomplished that morning.

I do pack a couple items in my bag to help make my day in the park go smoother! I would definitely pack a change of shoes, for me personally I'm a big fan of Oofos which they usually sell at the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo. I will switch back and forth between my tennis shoes and my Oofos as the day goes on and I feel like the switching keeps my feet feeling better. I also usually pack a lacrosse ball or my RumbleRoller to roll out on my muscles to prevent lactic acid from building up. Don't pressure yourself to get a full day in, listen to your body and judge it for yourself. A small warning, don't stay static for too long, you'll find this is when the soreness may set it. I do think you'll find that when you keep moving you'll feel better!
