I read that some table service restaurants will let you skip a drink and get an appetizer instead when using a meal credit from the DDP. Is this true?

    Hi Robin,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, and thank you for your question. My family had a really fun time using the Disney Dining Plan earlier this year. Pre-paying for our meals made our vacation feel all-inclusive, and we had fun trying lots of new things.

We get this question a lot here on the Moms Panel. Unfortunately, there isn’t really one straightforward answer, because substitutions are at the discretion of the server and the restaurant. My best advice is to ask the Cast Member who is serving you about any substitutions you might be interested in, but go in expecting that the substitution will likely not be allowed. Then, if you get a magical yes, it will feel like pixie dust.

Robin, it’s my understanding that the “drink for appetizer” substitution was more common with the Disney Dining Plan as it existed a few years ago than it is now. With 2018’s introduction of select alcoholic beverages and premium drinks such as smoothies and milkshakes included on the plan, the way restaurants are keeping inventory has shifted, so these substitutions may be less common. Remember, though, that you can always pay out of pocket if something looks too delicious to pass up!

I hope you enjoy every delicious drink, snack, and meal on the Disney Dining Plan. My friend and fellow Panelist Kristen keeps a “to eat” list based on all the mouthwatering food articles on the Disney Parks Blog, and I highly encourage you to check out all the great articles on the blog and do the same so you are ready to make the most out of that dining plan.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
    Robyn
